Why we created Forair

In Québec, forest owners often know their forest very well. They have walked through it, worked in it, hunted there, harvested firewood, maintained roads or simply spent time there with family. Their forest is part of their story.

It is a place they return to. A territory they observe through the seasons. Trees they watch grow slowly, year after year.

For many, a forest is not just a property. It represents time, effort, memories and often a legacy they hope to pass on to those who come after them.

Yet, despite this strong connection with their woodlot, many forest owners rarely have access to all the information that could help them better understand their forest and make the right decisions at the right time.

This is the reality that Forair was built to address.

Seeing your woodlot more clearly

When you own a forest, you often know certain areas by heart. You know where the road gets wet in spring, where the deer pass through, where the maples are the most beautiful or where an old harvest has left its mark.

But even with this on-the-ground knowledge, it can be difficult to get the full picture.

What forest stands make up the woodlot? Which areas are more vulnerable? Where is the potential for enhancement? Which decisions should be made now rather than ten years from now?

We created Forair to help forest owners see what really matters in their forest. Not to make things more complicated. Not to replace field experience. But to add clear reference points to what owners already observe.

Our objective is simple: to help owners move from observation to action with greater clarity and confidence.

A solid starting point

Today, the Forair application offers a clear portrait of a forest free of charge.

Owners can view an aerial image of their property, its cadastral boundaries, as well as information on the tree species, height, density and age of the forest stands that make it up. This is complemented by lakes, watercourses, infrastructure such as roads and buildings and the history of recorded forest operations.

The information presented is based on recognized public data and on the expertise of a forestry team and partners, including the Fédération des producteurs forestiers du Québec, who understand the realities of Québec's private forests.

This information provides a clearer view of the woodlot and highlights the elements to consider. It helps owners better understand their stands, identify sensitive areas and recognize what may require particular attention or intervention.

By being better prepared, owners can then have more useful conversations with professionals, express their objectives more clearly and make more informed decisions for their property.

Our vision for what comes next

This is only the beginning for the platform.

In the coming months, we want to add recommendations for carbon and biodiversity initiatives, simplified access to a forest management plan, information on available financial assistance, a mobile application to support field visits and tools to better integrate ecological considerations into woodlot management.

We also want to make it easier to connect with qualified professionals. The application should become a gateway to better identify opportunities to enhance the property, plan interventions, protect sensitive areas and move projects forward with the right people.

Finally, we want to allow owners to bring together their own knowledge of their woodlot in the application: observations gathered over the years, activities carried out, areas to monitor or important places to preserve. This valuable knowledge can then be preserved and passed on more easily to children, relatives or future owners.

Every owner has their own objectives. Some want to harvest wood, others want to protect wildlife, maintain a family legacy, produce maple syrup, improve the health of their forest or simply better understand what they own. For us, all these motivations are valid.

Forair was built to respect this diversity and provide a clear and neutral reference, regardless of the owner's level of forestry knowledge, so that everyone can move forward at their own pace, according to their priorities.

A team serving the forest

Behind Forair is a team of forest engineers, geomatics specialists, developers, forest carbon experts and passionate people who work every day to make technology more useful for the forestry world.

Forair was born from this meeting point between the forest and the digital world. Between practical field knowledge and the power of data. Between forestry traditions and modern tools.

We love innovation, but above all, we love what it allows us to offer forest owners: sustainable forest management that is simpler, more accessible and better adapted to their reality. This is how we carry out our mission: to unlock the full ecological and economic potential of our forests.

Because our forests have so much to offer, if we can better understand them and take the right actions at the right time.

That is exactly what Forair wants to make possible.
